Equipment

  • Medium Saucepan

Ingredients

  • 12 oz Cranberries, fresh and rinsed well
  • 1 C Water
  • 2 Medium Apples (or 1 apple/1 pear), cored and diced
  • ½ C Maple Syrup
  • ½ Medium Orange, juiced
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • ½ tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 pinch Cloves, ground

Optional Add Ins

  • ½ C Walnuts, chopped (Optional)
  • ½ C Raisins

Instructions

  • Over medium high heat, add the cranberries and water. Heat until almost all of the cranberries are split. (about 10 minutes)
  • While the cranberries are cooking, prepare your apples, Once the cranberries are split, add about 3/4 of the apple. (I like to keep some to add later for added crunch!
  • Once the cranberries have all split, reduce the heat to medium-low (to a simmer). Add the apples, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Simmer until the fruit is the consistency that you like, usually about 15-20 minutes for soft fruit. If your sauce is a bit thin, don't worry! It will thicken as it cools!
  • Be sure to taste your sauce and adjust the maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves to your liking. If your sauce is a bit more liquid than you like, don't worry! The pectin from the apples and cranberries will allow the sauce to thicken as it cools!
  • Refrigerate and then serve!
  • ***If adding the walnuts, I would mix them in just before serving to give your sauce that extra crunch!

Notes

***This sauce will be good in the refrigerator for up to 10 days! Or it can be frozen for up to 3 months!
