Equipment

  • Small Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Large Sautee Pan

Ingredients

Tofu Ingredients

  • 1- 14 oz pkg Tofu, extra firm (drained and pressed)
  • 2 TBSP GF Tamari Sauce
  • 2 TBSP Tapioca Starch (or flour)

Sauce Ingredients

  • C Water
  • ½ C GF Tamari Sauce
  • 3 TBSP Maple Syrup (add another TBSP if you like it more sweet)
  • 4 Cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 tsp Ginger, fresh grated
  • 2 TBSP Tapicoa Starch (or flour)

Serving Options

  • Brown Rice
  • Green Onion, thinly sliced
  • Sesame Seeds

Instructions

Tofu Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 425 °F
  • Once the tofu is drained and pressed, place it on a cutting board. Cut the tofu into one inch cubes.
  • Place the cubed tofu in a small mixing bowl. Pour the Tamari sauce over the tofu and mix to coat the tofu.
  • Once the tofu is fully coated with the Tamari sauce, sprinkle the 2 TBSP of Tapioca Starch over the tofu and mix to combine.
  • Place the coated tofu cubes in a single layer on the parchment lined baking sheet. (DO NOT use a silicone baking sheet as the tofu will stick and not crisp up as nicely.)
  • Place the baking sheet in the oven on the middle rack and bake for 15 minutes..
  • Remove the baking tray from the oven and flip each piece of tofu.
  • Place the baking sheet back in the oven and bake an additional 15 minutes, or until the tofu becomes a bit crispy.

Mongolian Sauce Instructions

  • While the tofu is baking, prepare the sauce.
  • To the large sautee pan, add all of the sauce ingredients.
  • Over medium heat, whisk and combine the sauce ingredients.
  • While the sauce is heating, whisk often to prevent burning or the sauce becoming too thick. If the sauce becomes too thick, add 1 TBSP of water, whisk and allow it to continue cooking. Repeat if you think the sauce is too thick for your taste. This should take about 5 minutes.

Combining the Tofu and Sauce

  • When the sauce and tofu are done, place the tofu in the pan with the sauce. Stir it gently so as not to break up the tofu cubes.
  • Serve immediately over brown rice and top with green onions and sesame seeds if you like. Enjoy!
